Blade Interactive, developer of the upcoming waterlogged survival adventure game Hydrophobia, has told Eurogamer that it plans to self-publish the game in March 2009. Hydrophobia takes place on the Queen of the World, a massive city-sized ship with a teensy problem, it's sinking. The protagonist, Kate Wilson, as it turns out, is deathly afraid of water. It kind of makes you wonder why she applied for a job on a giant boat, but we digress. The game focuses on water based puzzles and incorporates an impressive liquid physics engine to facilitate them. Blade Interactive already has a sequel planned, the hope of which floats on the success of Hydrophobia. Last night, Major Nelson announced that one final wave of invites to the NXE preview program were being sent. Specifically, another 10,000 lucky gamers have been given preview access. If you signed up for the initial phase of the program and have yet to be invited, make sure to check your inbox, as Microsoft sent out the final invitations last night (don't forget to check your spam). Remember, this is the last wave of invites, so if you haven't made it now, you're not going to. But hey, don't sweat it if you still haven't been invited, as the official rollout is only five days away anyway. News, Prince of Persia
A new trailer for the upcoming refresh of the Prince of Persia series has been released, and it's a doozy. Clocking in at nearly five and a half minutes, it pretty much covers everything you need to know about the game. An ancient evil god wreaked havoc on the world, said god was imprisoned in the Tree of Life with a warrior tribe sworn to watch over it for all time. Fast forward 10,000 years and the evil god escapes, presumably because the warrior tribe fell asleep at the switch. Thankfully, the Prince is here to help the last Princess of the warrior tribe put the evil god to rest once more. The trailer has a bit of a Zelda feel to it, which is by no means a bad thing. Find it after the break. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the song featured in the trailer is " Breathe Me" by Sia. We know, we know. It's kind of hard to keep reading this when you know that Zapper is headed to Xbox Originals. Stay with us though, because the game isn't actually available yet, so you can't run off to download it anyway. No, the game won't actually be available on the service until November 17, at which point we imagine all of the world's social interaction and commerce will cease -- apart from the massive influx of MS Point purchases -- throwing the global economy into a tailspin. Deliveries will stop, utilities will shut down, but no one will care. We'll all be mesmerized by the awesomeness that is Zapper, and we will play until the electricity fails. As Zapper constantly prods the pleasure nodes in our brains, we will slowly, blissfully succumb to starvation. Either that or Zapper's release will slip by completely unnoticed, one of the two. It's that time again to look at the NPD sales numbers for October's video game sales in North America. And we must say, what a huge month October was for the Xbox 360.
360 hardware sales were stellar, moving 371,000 units in October which was nearly double the Playstation 3's 190,000 units, but far from the Wii's 803,000. As far a software goes, Fable II was the big sales winner, beating out all other game titles with its 790,000 units. In total, five Xbox 360 games made it into the top ten. Check out a complete listing of October NPD hardware and software sales after the break. News Update: Apparently, as has been pointed out by numerous comments, this trailer is brain-staggeringly old (apart from the bit at the end that says the NXE is coming November 19). The editor responsible for posting this has been sacked and unceremoniously rehired. Microsoft has released a trailer for the New Xbox Experience, showing off the new interface and some of its features (all set to a zippy soundtrack, of course). For anyone that's been following the NXE though, it's mostly old hat. That is except for the brief glimpse of Primetime, the nifty live gameshow concept that was originally supposed to launch with the NXE but was then unfortunately delayed until early 2009. Other than that, the video pretty much screams, "Hey look! We have Avatars! We're approachable too!" We'll just have to wait and see if the message lands with the casual audience Microsoft hopes to woo. The NXE, incidentally, lands next Wednesday.
