A peek inside Gears 2's Day One arcade
Xbox 360 - Latest News

,

Our compadres over at Joystiq took a gander through the Gears of War 2's arcade that's featured in the multiplayer map "Day One" and, not only did they grab a few screenshots, but they also analyzed the heck outta the entire setup. It's a very informative arcade analysis. We advise you view what the Playland Arcade has to offer and whether or not you're up for beating the high scores in "Murder Simulator", "Malicious Delicious" or our GOTY pick "Carny Brawl". Oh how we love our "Carney Brawl" ...

Big black Xbox makes Time's list of top Microsoft moments
Xbox 360 - Latest News

Oh yes, the original Xbox in all its VCR-looking glory. She was a big beast, solid like a rock and had a controller (a Duke controller) that doubled as a serving tray. Yes, the launch of the original Xbox was a milestone for Microsoft and an important enough event to warrant its place at #8 in Time's list of Top Ten Microsoft Moments.

Love it or hate it, the original Xbox was a necessary step for us to have our pride and joy, the Xbox 360. So, let's take this Time sponsored opportunity to reminisce about the "glory" days. We ask, what are your memories of the original Xbox and do you miss the big guy?

Save those seconds: Handy NXE game install chart
Xbox 360 - Latest News

Installing games is definitely one of the more intriguing features of the New Xbox Experience. We've tested it. So has Eurogamer. When it comes right down to it, the performance increase (if any) varies wildly on a game by game basis. If only there was some central source we could check to see how well a game runs after it's installed. If only there were some place where such information was arranged in an intuitive manner, alphabetically perhaps. Wait a minute! BingeGamer already put together a chart and it lists 360 games in alphabetical order! The chart also lists how big a footprint each game will leave on your HDD (Lost Odyssey is 23.2 gigs, yikes).

Not surprisingly, there are still plenty of games that haven't been tested, so be sure to drop a comment at BingeGamer if you have some data about a game that isn't listed yet. Big Bumpin', sadly, isn't supported, so don't bother with that one.

Worms, UMK3, Feeding Frenzy now on XBLA Hits page [update]
Xbox 360 - Latest News

,

Update: Yup. No new game on XBLA this week. These new Arcade Hits are all we get.

Microsoft has yet to make any official announcements, but it looks like some new Xbox Live Arcade Hits are headed to our favorite download service. Three new titles have appeared on the official Xbox.com Arcade Hits page: Feeding Frenzy, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and Worms. All of them are listed at a new price of 400 Microsoft Points ($5), half of their original 800 Point price. We checked Xbox Live Marketplace and all three titles are still listed at their original price, so right now all we're really waiting for is an announcement from Microsoft. Given that Wednesday is the day that Xbox Live Arcade announcements are made, we wouldn't be suprirsed if these new discounts are announced today or tomorrow. We'll update this post when we have new information.

After all, Worms + Friends = Party.

Three XBLA titles get prices reduced
Xbox 360 - Latest News

,

After no announcement earlier this week and the discovery of three new titles on the Arcade Hits page on Xbox.com, we were fairly certain there would be no new Xbox Live Arcade title this week. After checking the Marketplace this morning, our suspicions have been confirmed. There is no new title, but Worms, Feeding Frenzy, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 have all had their prices slashed to 400 Microsoft Points. So, we've got a hardcore fighter, a casual fish eating simulator and one of the best party games around all for only five bucks each. It's not new, but it's not bad if you've ever thought about picking one of these up.

Just call it Gears of War 2 million sold
Xbox 360 - Latest News

,

This morning, Microsoft and Epic Games announced that - since last week's launch - our beloved Gears of War 2 has sold a jaw dropping 2 million units worldwide. We're sure Cliff Blezinski is out there somewhere smiling from ear to ear, counting his cash and putting a down payment on another Lamborghini.

If you're hungry for more Gears 2 number facts, Microsoft also revealed that 1.5 million gamers logged onto Xbox Live during Gears 2 launch weekend, 19 million achievements were unlocked, 15 million gameplay hours were put in and a new concurrent Live player record was reached. Congrats Epic on a job well done.

Recent Xbox Live bans done to retain 'health of the video game business'
Xbox 360 - Latest News

After hearing modding forums across the interwebs explode in anger when finding out about Microsoft's recent use of the Xbox Live banhammer, Microsoft's Major Nelson decided to make an official comment.

"In our our continued effort to keep gameplay safe and secure for our community of more than 14 million members, Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive, both from manufacturers and the local companies that support them."

So, there you have it. The health of the video game business depends on slapping modders and haxorz on the wrist and taking their Xbox Live privileges away. So, kids, don't do it. Don't mod. Or just don't go on Xbox Live with your mod. (End X3F public service announcement.)

[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]
